Cookie Policy

Analytics, consent and ad cookies, what the tools save, and how to clear it all.

This page lists the cookies and browser storage Walnut Timer uses, what each one is for and how long it lasts. The Privacy Policy covers the rest.

01What cookies and local storage are

A cookie is a small text file a website saves in your browser to recognize you later. Local storage stays on your device and isn't sent with every request. Walnut Timer uses local storage for your timers, alarms and settings; the cookies below are set by Google, for analytics, consent and, when ads are shown, advertising.

03The two Google Analytics cookies

Google Analytics 4 shows us, as totals, how the site is used and found. It sets two first-party cookies:

  • _ga: tells visitors apart with a random identifier. Expires after 2 years.
  • _ga_<id>: keeps the state of your current visit. Expires after 2 years.

04How Google Analytics is set up here

We use Google Consent Mode v2. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, analytics storage is denied by default: until you accept, no Analytics cookies are set and Google gets only cookieless pings without identifiers. Elsewhere they're set from your first visit. Everywhere, ad_storage, ad_user_data and ad_personalization are denied by default. IP addresses aren't stored, and data is kept for 14 months.

05What the tools save in your browser

Walnut Timer writes these itself. They stay on your device, never reach us and only make the tools work, so they aren't tracking:

  • wt:settings: theme, sound, volume, clock format, notification and screen-awake preferences.
  • wt:timer: the timer in progress, its end time, Repeat mode and your recent durations.
  • wt:stopwatch: a running stopwatch and its laps.
  • wt:alarms: your alarms, with time, label, sound and on/off.
  • wt:countdown: your last countdown's date and title.
  • wt:focus: focus timer settings and the session in progress.
  • wt:focus:<date>: focus minutes completed on that day.

06Advertising cookies

Walnut Timer may show ads served by Google AdSense; in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, personalized ads need your consent. Google explains its use of this data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, and you can turn off personalized ads at adssettings.google.com. When ads are shown, Google and its partners may use cookies such as:

  • __gads and __gpi: ad delivery and measurement. Expire after 13 months.
  • __eoi: security and fraud prevention for ads. Expires after 6 months.

07How to delete or block cookies

Clearing all site data for Walnut Timer also deletes your settings, alarms, timers, laps and focus totals on that device. To remove only analytics, delete the cookies starting with _ga. Roughly:

  • Chrome: Settings, Privacy and security, Delete browsing data, or the icon left of the address bar for this site only.
  • Safari: on a Mac, Settings, Privacy, Manage Website Data; on iPhone and iPad, the Settings app, Safari, Advanced, Website Data.
  • Firefox: Settings, Privacy & Security, Cookies and Site Data.
  • Edge: Settings, Cookies and site permissions.

08Other ways to opt out of analytics

In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, use Privacy choices in the footer. Anywhere, a content blocker or Google's Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on stops analytics. Every tool works the same without them.

09For readers in the US

We don't sell personal information for money. When ads are shown, Google's ad cookies may count as sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising under some state laws, such as California's. Where you have this right, the Do not sell or share my personal information link in the footer opts you out in that browser.
