Why it exists

A timer is something you need right now: the pasta just went in, the quiz starts, the talk has five minutes left. It should open fast, be obvious to set and ring when it says it will. Walnut Timer is meant to be exactly that: open the page, set the time, get on with your day.

It's also meant to be honest. A web page can't ring once its tab is closed or a locked phone has frozen the browser, and the site says so plainly.

What's different here

  • No account, nothing to install

Your settings, alarms, recent timers, laps and focus totals live in your own browser.

  • On time in the background

Time is measured from your device's clock, not by counting ticks, so a timer stays accurate in a hidden tab and carries on where it was after a reload.

  • Set it your way

Drag around the dial, type hours, minutes and seconds, or tap a preset from 1 to 60 minutes. The durations you used last come back as quick picks.

  • Hard to miss

When time is up, the sound repeats until you stop it (or for 2 minutes), the screen pulses and the tab title tells you.

  • Sounds made in the browser

Bell, Chime, Wood, Beep and Gentle, with a volume control.

  • Analytics kept simple

Google Analytics counts visits so we can see what to improve; its cookies are listed in the Cookie Policy. The site may show Google ads, and where the law requires it, you're asked for consent first.

The five tools

The Timer runs for up to 99 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds, with a Repeat mode for intervals and workouts. The Stopwatch counts hundredths of a second and marks your fastest and slowest lap. The Alarm clock holds up to 5 labeled alarms, with snooze and a sound test. The Countdown runs to any date and time and gives you a link to share. The Focus timer follows the Pomodoro technique: 25 minutes of focus, then 5 of rest. All five work on phones, tablets and computers, come in four themes and have keyboard shortcuts on a computer.

03

One honest limit

A tool can only ring while its page is open. If the tab is closed, the computer sleeps or a locked phone freezes the browser, the sound can be late or silent, and on iPhone the silent switch can mute it. For a wake-up alarm that must not fail, set one on your phone as well.
